Mandatory Union Activity
Every member of the New York City District Council of Carpenters actively contributes to the success of our union. Our members are on the street every day on picket lines, leading rallies, phone banking and/ or participating in political action and community participation.
Every day union activity options are listed on the District Council website, which is, www.nycdistrictcouncil.org.
Members can call (212) 366-7810 Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. only, and request an assignment the day before they are available for duty. Once the member has selected an assignment, they must give the dispatcher their correct Name, UBC number and Local Union number.
A Union Activity Coordinator will not let a member serve their duty unless they are dispatched by the New York City District Council of Carpenters. You cannot just go to an activity site and expect to get signed up.
All union members, including retired members and members from other jurisdictions, who work over 99 hours in the NYC District Council jurisdiction are assessed $500 each calendar year. Every member who performs one day/ 7 hours of union activity to their union each calendar year will receive a $500 credit to their vacation benefit distribution.
