BuildingWorks Pre-Apprenticeship training February 3 - 28, 2025

Submit this form by 12 noon on January 27. This application form is for the session beginning February 3, 2025. If you are not available for the this session, we hope you will apply to an upcoming session. You will need to complete a separate application for each session. HERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BUILDINGWORKS BEFORE YOU APPLY:

BuildingWorks is a pre-apprenticeship training that prepares individuals for the Carpenters Union Apprenticeship. Successful candidates for BuildingWorks should have a strong career interest in union carpentry. They should be able to demonstrate, through personal experience, the ability to commit to projects, and the likelihood of completing the 4-year carpenter apprenticeship leading to a long and successful career as a union carpenter. No previous experience with carpentry or construction is necessary, however applicants should have at least 1 year of work experience outside the home.

  • Applicants should have a strong interest in Carpentry and commit to completing the 4-year apprenticeship leading to a career as a Union Carpenter.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to work on job sites anywhere in New York City and vicinity.
  • Applicants must pass a drug screen.
  • Full-Day Sessions are held Mon. to Fri. 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. (start/end times may vary)
  • Sessions will be held in person at the Carpenters Training Center in lower Manhattan. There is a strict attendance policy. No excused absences or lateness for any reason.

Steps to the Application Process

  • Complete this form and upload a photo of your High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • Applications must be submitted by 12 noon January 27.
  • Attend a mandatory Applicant Webinar and complete an online test on January 28. A link with log in information will be emailed after the application deadline. Test link is distributed at the Webinar.
  • Attend a virtual interview on January 29.

A scan or photo of your original High School or College Diploma or GED or TASC certificate must be uploaded with this application. Diploma must be from an accredited high school (online programs are not accepted). In place of a diploma, we will accept a High School transcript with your graduation date including a signature from a school official and a school stamp. We do NOT accept letters from a High School official. We do NOT accept college transcripts. Diplomas in a foreign language must be accompanied by a translation. Applications without the required documents uploaded here will be disqualified.
